Jean-Jacques Rousseau, in the introduction to his book, ‘The Social Contract‘ (1762) wrote: “This little treatise is part of a larger work which I undertook many years ago without thinking of the limitations of my powers, and have long since abandoned. Of the various fragments that might have been taken from what I wrote, this is the most considerable, and the one I think the least unworthy of being offered to the public. The rest no longer exists.”

This comes to mind as I start preparing for my courses this Fall semester. I had used Rousseau’s quote as a starting point for a project assignment a few years ago. Somehow, it seems noteworthy in this culture of blogging and e-communes.
