Shawn Decker: The Night Sounds
installation photographed at St. Andrews-Sewanee Art Gallery, June, 2012
Sewanee, TN hosts a number of remarkable programs during the Summer. Among them, the one I most look forward to is a fortnight of art classes at St. Andrews-Sewanee School, known as Shakerag Workshops. Along with the focus and creative energy that these workshops afford and foster, there is a rich gathering of committed artists and teachers. This past week, I met Shawn Decker, and am enthralled by his work; ‘The Night Sounds’ is installed at the Shakerag gallery space, and I find myself needing (I mean just that) to be in and around the piece each time I pass by the area. His site has more information about this particular piece - take a look and listen to it. If you are in and around the Sewanee area for this coming week, it is worth coming by to see the show (More information about the location and hours of the Gallery). Other artists (who are also teachers during the current session) in the exhibition are
Session One: June 10 – 16, 2012

Considering the way this 2012 session filled up at Shakerag, it may be worth booking well ahead for next year’s (10th anniversary) series – it promises to be an extraordinary one.
