Robin Gillanders: Pradip Malde, 1988

Fellow photographer, teacher and dear friend Robin Gillanders has just activated his web site. He is an extraordinary image-maker and consistently melds the rational with what is felt and transitional. His photographs are readable, yet always in a state of flux. They are very present, even arresting, but never just of the moment. Robin made this photograph as a demonstration of portrait lighting, with a class of some 20 students hovering all around him. Despite the packed room, his constant didactic commentary and a bit of clowning to keep the class engaged, he still managed to produce this gentle but intense portrait. And he is a wonderful printer.

I am so glad that Robin is sharing his work via the web site. Take a look.

(I have previously posted a portrait of Robin)
