Community development in two different forms, even though there is some humor here. Zanmi Lasante (ZL) established a holistic strategy for dealing with the AIDS and Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis epidemic in the central plateaus and mountains of Haiti: community-based monitoring of treatment plans, education, nutrition, potable water and of course, prophylactic treatment. Along with this, strategies are in place for capacity building across the entire development spectrum. Some of the plans have worked, some are tried and fail but suggest new and better approaches. What persists is the tenacious nature of both the institution and its constituents.

This potable water supply station is one of dozens installed by ZL, but villagers still have to hike considerable distances every day to access it.

I had just switched from the square format of my Hasselblad to a 35mm full frame DSLR. I liked the freedom and speed of a modern camera, but could not let go of the square format.
