This semester, Art 231 and 331 – Digital Art will be bulding interactive installations. The syllabus will be up on the web this week. Students will be asked to present and lead a discussion of selected artists/installations on a weekly basis. This is the list from which they will be selecting work. Polling day approaches in Sierra Leone (August 11). Paul Dixon, a rising sophomore at Sewanee, is in this strife-ridden nation working with youngsters, teaching them how to photograph and document their lives and culture. Based with an organization called iEarn, whose mission is to rebuild lives affected by decades of civil war, Paul is keeping the rest of us informed via a fascinating blog . Go Paul!

I Feel the Flowers Growing Over Me and Memory of Water opened tonight at the Zeitgeist Gallery in Nashville TN. Sculpture and sound works by Greg Pond and photographs by Bjorn Sterri make a heart-rending statement about family and location. It feels good to see male artists addressing issues that have more often been so deeply explored by women.
