Cy Twombly’s work often referenced the burdens of history and the Ancient and yet, is astonishingly alive and spontaneous, vital. His paintings put me in a place that is timeless and perpetually true – they are not, as so many people seem to think, even remotely childlike in their intention and coherence. Rest in peace and thanks, Mr Twombly!
