Looking At God – 2007

 View the folio

These images are not portraits. They point at something beyond the individual. Nor are they descriptors of some meta-human. Even though they are photographs of faces, the images use the gaze as an unveiling. Rather than examine the more familiar discourse between sitter, photographer and viewer, the series, Looking At God, considers the looping nature of perception and the senselessness of otherness.

Simplicity is a necessary part of the piece’s structure.

All the photographs in this series were made with a Hasselblad camera and Fujicolor film.

First exhibited at Cheekwood Museum and Botanical Gardens, Nashville, 2007
