I grew up waking to windows like this – jalousie slats (or louvred crankout glass windows). Waking and wondering if the dawn sounds – pigeons, insects, cockerels – were actually the sound of the rising sun or something else. I figured out the answer at the age of 5. But then, it became all confusing again on this morning in Haiti. I don’t recall working out the exposure (hand held light meter) or focus, or even taking the photograph.

Sometimes, I wonder if most of my journeying in Haiti has really been about a craving for home.
