Luca. Hold. Table. Sewanee, TN. 2008. Platinum-palladium print from 8 x10 inch negative.
The specially formulated paper called Buxton, was made by Ruscomb Mill from Mike Ware’s specifications. No other paper has yet come close to the ‘sharpness’ rendered here. Many of those more familiar with printing on silver gelatin or digital inkjet may think that sharpness and contrast go together. But not so here. There are, in musical terms, time signatures other than the all pervasive 2/4. We have an uncommon lack of white and black tones, or minimum (base white) and maximum (black) densities, a lot of highly nuanced grey and some very sharp edge effects. Like an irrational meter, 5/24!
