    Gorgeous portrait!

  2. Beautiful moment. So soft yet accurately rendered. Rich in feeling. Wide open, or close, combined with relatively slow exposure? With an 8×10 portrait sitting how many exposures might you make to get what you wanted (would you limit yourself to one or two exposures). I have my own internal rules which I mostly follow but not always. Just curious.

  3. @Connie, Mary – thank you! @Carl: Thanks too! Yes, that was a slow exposure – about 1/5 second. I rarely take more than one exposure with 8×10 or 11×14. So much seems to dissipate after that first connection, and so much seems to go into getting to that point. There have been times when either circumstance, or the person I am working with, just shifts at the moment of exposure – and then we all know it and have to try again. With this portrait of Zib, it was just one exposure of this particular setup, but that afternoon with her, as we walked around the moated castle in Nunney, resulted in three other portraits of her. Two others have yet to be printed. Here’s another.
